What to do when someone dies
At Cotton & Son, we understand how difficult it can be to navigate what to do when someone dies. That’s why we’re here to provide you with the support and guidance you need, every step of the way. All deaths must be registered which can be done by telephone - this will document some of the details surrounding the person's death. If a death occurs which is sudden or unexpected, or if the deceased’s doctor is unsure of the cause of death and feels unable to issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD), the death will usually be reported to the Coroner, which may delay registration.
The "Tell Us Once" service is also available to help report the death to most government organisations such as benefit-related services, Department for Work & Pensions and HMRC.
